This is my final selection from my two original design ideas…

But, I am now also considering this one as well…

For my web builder I have been looking a lot into squarespace, but I am also going to check out the sites you just posted (a-plus.net) and probably go with one of those.

Researched Sites/ Competitive Analysis:

enila.fr – At first this site feels a little overwhelming, but when you start interacting with it it’s actually pretty cool. I like the setup of the icons for the portfolio projects and the animation of the icon when you click on them (the icon turns into the back button to go back to the main page.) The name of the site isn’t working well in relation to the rest of the site but visually I think it would be an interesting concept to look at in my own design – specifically how when you filter the projects the ones you don’t want disappear leaving the others in a fixed location.

snackbox.us – Very clean and unique design, the content is easily accessible and the portfolio pages are well done. The action of the pages loading (the project icons loading) is interesting to watch and adds to the overall design of the website. I don’t know if I would like incorporating this into my own design because it’s not really my style, but it is interesting.

designspongeonline.com – this is not a portfolio website but I liked it for the fact it is well organized, loads quickly, very functional and user friendly. Visually it feels slightly cluttered with all of the images in the middle – for my design I am leaning towards a more minimalistic approach with less imagery.

deep.co.uk – I really like the design of this site, it is simple and straightforward which is what I am going towards for my own website. The scrolling portfolio is nice, it makes the site take a moment to load, but not too long. The individual project pages do take a little longer too load than ideal though.

Leeallenphotography.co.uk - I really like the layout of this page, its simple and the navigation is easy to follow but is also creative. I also really like the use of images being incorporated into the navigation in terms of “wedding” showing a cropped photo of a couple kissing. I like the idea of being more visually driven than just depending on words so that is something I would like to incorporate into me web design. The subsequent pages are very simple in content which I like because it creates more of an emphasis on the work itself.

s19382.gridserver.com - The interaction of this site is really well done and interesting, but again takes some time to load. I like the concept but it can also be a little overwhelming if you are trying to pick a specific project to look at. I think for my website I would like to incorporate an element like this but it needs to be a little simpler and more user friendly.
Web Strategy: My website’s purpose will be to build my reputation as a designer as well as attaining job opportunities so it will be speaking to those who know nothing about design and need to hire a designer as well as those who know much about design and are looking for potential employees. Because of this wide range it would be most effective for my website to be very simple, user friendly, and straightforward in terms of content. I have not chosen a platform yet that I feel will fit this purpose to the best extent, but I have looked at those such as webs.com, squarespace.com, and several others.
